Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician to provide field support during testing, commissioning, and startup phases of industrial and data center projects. Working directly alongside Controls and OT Engineers, this role is essential for executing loop checks, point-to-point verification, power checks, and hands-on troubleshooting to ensure systems are ready for commissioning and client acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform point-to-point (P2P) continuity checks on field wiring from field devices to junction boxes and control panels
• Execute loop checks for analog and digital I/O signals between field instruments and PLCs/DCS systems
• Verify power distribution to field devices, panels, and control equipment
• Perform instrument calibration, loop tuning, and device configuration independently; ability to perform these functions without engineer assistance is strongly preferred
• Identify and document wiring discrepancies, tagging errors, and punch list items
• Support functional testing of control valves, motor starters, VFDs, and field instruments
• Maintain accurate field records and testing logs throughout the commissioning process
• Follow site safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and project-specific requirements
Qualifications
• 2 years of experience as a controls technician, instrumentation technician, or electrician in an industrial or construction environment
• Proficiency with multimeters, loop calibrators, HART communicators, and related test equipment
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and I/O lists
• Basic understanding of PLC I/O systems and control panel layouts
• Experience with LOTO procedures and electrical safety practices
• Data center construction or commissioning experience is a plus
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational habits for field documentation
• Ability to work in fast-paced construction and commissioning environments
Preferred Certifications & Licenses
• NICET Level I or II (Instrumentation & Control) preferred
• OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred
• Valid driver’s license required
