What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crate Builder position at Flexicon Corporation?
This position supports the shipping & packaging department by building high-quality wood crates, skids, and custom packaging. This role will set up and operate woodworking machinery, use power tools, and perform precision measurements to ensure all crates meet specifications
Duties
- Construct durable shipping crates to protect finished products during transit required.
- Build custom wooden crates and pallets based on measurements, drawings, or verbal instructions
- Accurately measure and cut lumber using table saws, chop saws, and hand tools
- Assemble crates and pallets using nail guns, screws, brackets, and other fasteners
- Design and install internal bracing and supports to safeguard heavy metal components during transport
- Ensure all items are secured properly to prevent movement, rubbing, or damage
- Inspect finished crates to ensure structural integrity and compliance with company or customer specifications
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or packing instructions
- Select appropriate materials, including lumber, foam, blocking, straps, and protective wrap
- Apply protective packaging materials such as foam, felt, shrink wrap, and blocking to prevent scratches or chipping
- Operate woodworking and shop equipment safely and efficiently
- Label and document crates for shipping, including part numbers, weights, and handling instructions
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tool upkeep and scrap management
- Collaborate with shipping and production teams to meet packing and shipping deadlines
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper PPE use and safe material handling practices
Experience
- 1-2 years of Carpentry experience required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
