Job Title: Material Handler / Forklift Operator (1st Shift)
Department: Warehouse & Logistics
Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Pay Range: $20.00–$25.00 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: 1st Shift (exact hours set by site); occasional OT as needed
Position Summary:
Move, store, and distribute raw materials, parts, and finished goods to support bus manufacturing operations. Operate forklifts/hoists/hand trucks, transact inventory in the ERP, and deliver materials to production on time while following all safety and quality guidelines.
Essential Duties:
- Pull and stage materials to work orders and production schedules.
- Load, unload, and transport materials using forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Replenish assembly materials (min/max, simulations, put-away) and pull kits to sales orders/production schedule.
- Organize bins and work centers (label placement, consistent labeling, bin size, floor space utilization).
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments; identify/report damage or discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate inventory transactions in the ERP system; support cycle counts and physical inventory.
- Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials per company policy.
- Coordinate with warehouse/production to prevent shortages and delays; deliver components as needed.
- Keep aisles, racks, docks, and staging areas clean and safe (5S/housekeeping).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of warehouse operations and inventory control.
- Safe operation of forklifts and material-handling equipment; knowledge of rigging basics a plus.
- Familiarity with materials (mild/stainless steel) and packaging/handling requirements.
- ERP proficiency for issuing/receiving/moves; basic Excel/Office skills.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and urgency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials safely and repeatedly.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years in material handling/warehousing/logistics (manufacturing preferred).
- Current forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain promptly).
Physical & Work Environment:
- Frequent standing/walking; bending, reaching, and climbing on/off equipment.
- Regular lifting up to 50 lbs (heavier with assistance or equipment).
- Manufacturing floor with moving equipment, noise, dust, and varying temperatures; PPE required.
