About The Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. We’re looking for a Systems Engineer, Business Applications who will play a key role within helping to maintain and evolve our Jira and related Atlassian products with potential expansion to other operational systems and business process automations.
As part of our Central Engineering Operations team, you will be responsible for providing the day to day support for our Jira instance, its intergrations and automations and drive projects of implementation new business logic in Jira at the enterprise level. You will also have the desire to branch out beyond Jira, and assist with our knowledge management solution, Slab, as well as integration with other systems and operational tools. You will be able to offer up your technical expertise to identify, analyze and develop solutions to complex business problems. You will play a key role in the maintenance, configuration and optimization across the systems you support. Our ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge across the various modules within Jira and it's configuration, administration and governance best practices. The candidate should also have a strong Jira automations experience via script runner, native automations and configuration. Ability to design subsystems architecture, understanding of data flows between various systems integrated with Jira is a must.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Oakland, CA office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

What You’ll Do
- Lead the configuration and customization of our Jira, design and implement solutions using automations, script runner in alignment with business processes, requirements, best industry practices and with Fivetran’s Feature Development Life Cycle
- Support configuration testing activities including UAT to E2E in close partnership with the business
- Support the day to day of our global Jira instance, focusing on custom configurations, reporting, and native integrations
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise, establishing the root cause and implementing a fix within a timely manner
- Ensure Jira is kept up to date by managing backups, patches and upgrades. Communicate with Atlassian and stay on on top of Atlassian updates, best practices and recommendations
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of system processes, configuration, and technical design
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across the organization to understand business needs, clarify requirements and design solutions
- Think broadly about processes and their dependencies, and create well-designed solutions beyond the immediate opportunity
- 5 Years of Jira cloud instance administration for Enterprise with 1500 users
- Strong skills in Jira system configuration including Jira automation, scripting via script runner or custom apps, Jira Query Language, rich filters and advanced dashboards.
- System design skills and an ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and develop them within a team
- Strong understanding of Agile project management methodologies.
- Thinking as the end user first, focused on the experience and UX customization
- Ability to query data in Jira beyond JQL using script runner
- Experience implementing Jira at a very R&D heavy organization
- Familiarity with Jira integrations such as Github, Zendesk,
- Eager to learn and stretch beyond your comfort level
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Atlassian Certified Jira Administrator, Atlassian Certified Jira Project Administrator, Atlassian Certified Jira Service Management Administrator, Atlassian Certified in Managing Jira Cloud Projects
- Experience as a software engineer / systems analyst, or as a systems engineer applying software development principles to internal systems
- Experience with related corporate systems, such as Okta, Github, OpsGenie, Carta, Ironclad, Coupa, Workday
- Public company experience and a working understanding of system and process controls
- Proficiency in general-purpose programming languages, SQL, and general data literacy and querying data warehouses containing Jira data.
- Experience in Jira custom apps creation.
