Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performs detailed analysis to process manufactured parts.
- Plans manufacturing processes, creates routings, programming, tooling and equipment lists for each application.
- Creates detailed work instructions for machinists.
- Designs and develops new tooling and fixtures as required.
- Stays current on new and developing manufacturing, fixturing and tooling technology.
- Serves as back-up to machine shop supervisor in his absence – approximately 20% responsibility.
- Exercises good, independent judgment to achieve optimum results.
- Participates in cost estimates, changes to current methods and creation of new methods, including cost savings calculations.
- Processes Engineering Change Orders (ECO).
- Participates in New Product Development Design-for-Manufacturability process.
- Identifies new suppliers in order to reduce cost, lead time and flex the workload.
- Maintains a safe, clean and orderly working area and addresses any issues, as required.
- Recommends changes to improve the efficiency of the department.
- Awareness of ISO management systems 9001 and 14001
- Associate’s degree in machining, manufacturing / industrial engineering or machinist apprenticeship preferred. 5-10 years related experience and/or training in an OEM, aerospace or heavy industry manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in CNC machining, grinding, setup, programming, and tooling across a range of machine sizes and types (large horizontal/vertical mills, large turning centers, grinders, 5-axis equipment, etc.).
- Demonstrated skill with MS Office and CAD/CAM tools.
- Ability to process parts for multiple types of machines (at least two types).
- Ability to program at least one type of current control systems and ability to learn additional types within six months, as needed in the future.
- Skilled in use of CAD/CAM software
- Past experience working in a business system with a preference for SAP
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to learn and use statistical process control (SPC) to analyze key process variables
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management and shop personnel
- Strong teaming skills and a sense of urgency
