The Supplier Quality Engineer plays a key role in strengthening supplier performance and supporting Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions. Supplier Quality Engineer
The Supplier Quality Engineer plays a key role in strengthening supplier performance and supporting Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions. This position focuses on assessing current and potential suppliers, guiding them through onboarding and development, and driving measurable improvements in cost, quality, and delivery. The role also includes identifying and cultivating competitive international sourcing options when beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead initiatives aimed at developing, engaging, and improving supplier performance.
- Assess supplier manufacturing processes, production capacity, and quality management systems.
- Support the qualification and integration of new suppliers into the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
- Create and execute supplier improvement strategies targeting cost efficiency, quality enhancement, and delivery reliability.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with manufacturing partners.
- Provide coaching on documentation standards, finishing processes, and quality assurance best practices.
- Act as a technical bridge between Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and external suppliers.
- Review bills of material (BOMs) and engineering drawings to identify critical requirements and opportunities for cost reduction.
- Offer guidance on appropriate manufacturing methods for components, assemblies, tooling, and equipment.
- Work closely with cross�?functional teams to ensure supplier capabilities align with project and business needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical discipline.
- 2-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a similar role.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%.
- Strong technical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
- Proficiency in interpreting 2D drawings, blueprints, drafting standards, and GD&T.
- Ability to analyze BOMs and engineering documentation.
- Experience negotiating pricing and contract terms with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing cost�?reduction initiatives.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and general PC/networking environments.
- Experience with Visual Mfg. or similar database systems preferred.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
- Experience adhering to quality standards such as ISO/IATF.
