Job Summary / Objective
Provides field service in connection with the installation, start-up, service, troubleshooting, repair, or demonstration of grinding machines and their components. Primarily responsible for either the mechanical functions and/or electrical components but with the future responsibility of learning all functions of the machine.
Duties will be tailored to the skill level and experience the technician has with the specific machine type or system. Technician will work on projects that are in various customer's facilities/locations and sometimes will be required to work onsite at Fives. Projects could range in length from a few days to several months although most projects last about 3 days. Technician will be responsible for demonstrating the machine performance and instruct customer personnel in the set-up and operation of the machine. Also, troubleshoots the machine operation and repair the equipment on location. Other duties may include supporting various functions in the Aftermarket department such as following up on quotes, researching parts, technical support, assisting with repair orders, and working on erecting floor plans with machine setup technicians and assemblers.

Summary Main Tasks / Responsibilities
- Requires at least two years of field service experience and knowledge of precision cylindrical grinding. Knowledge of centerless grinding and double disc grinding is a plus.
- Knowledgeable of CNC machines with servo drives and motors.
- Knowledgeable of Programmable Logic Controls such as Allen Bradley, Fanuc, Siemens, etc.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Analytical ability required for identification and evaluation of operational problems; ingenuity often required in problem solving under strange or difficult circumstances.
- Work assigned by supervision; self-directed in the field, but with frequent communications from home office or more senior field personnel.
- Unstructured situations offer frequent exposure to error, which could cause costly delays or damage customer relations. Knowledge of Fives Quality System relating to job tasks and assignments.
- Protocol requires observing customer's rules in their plant; must "get along”. Must be able to satisfy customer.
- Care required to avoid proprietary disclosure, extra or needless expense, or embarrassment; must protect both Fives & customer.
- Represents Fives in the customer's plant; good performance vital to customer
- Requires mental, visual, and psychological concentration with an audience.
- May perform heavy assembly work.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and represent Fives and the Aftermarket Department as an industry leader to customers, suppliers, professional colleagues and employees.
