Position Summary

The ideal candidate brings deep AutoCAD expertise, strong industrial controls experience, and the ability to independently execute complex I&C design work.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation & Controls Design
- Develop detailed electrical, instrumentation, and controls design packages for industrial facilities and specialty equipment.
- Produce AutoCAD drawings including:
- Instrument loop diagrams
- Control panel and enclosure layouts
- I/O lists and wiring diagrams
- Power and control schematics
- P&ID markups (I&C scope)
- Cable schedules and termination drawings
- Apply industry standards, client specifications, and engineering best practices to all design work.
- Incorporate PLC, HMI, and DCS interface requirements into electrical and instrumentation designs.
- Support projects from proposal/concept through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
- Review and interpret engineering calculations, specifications, and control narratives.
- Coordinate closely with Electrical Engineers, Process Engineers, Mechanical Designers, and Project Managers.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
- Acquire field measurements and field data. Will perform field walk downs of completed designs as well.
- Respond to RFIs, develop redline markups, and issue revised drawings as required.
- Perform or support site visits to verify installations and resolve design-related issues.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (NEC, ISA, NFPA, UL, IEC, client standards, etc.).
- Maintain drawing quality, consistency, and accuracy across projects.
- Support continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and workflows.
- Act as a technical resource for junior designers and drafters.
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, and adherence to standards.
- Help guide best practices in AutoCAD usage and I&C design methodology.
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
- 7 years of electrical design experience with a strong focus on instrumentation and controls.
- Extensive experience using AutoCAD for industrial electrical design.
- Proven background in industrial projects (manufacturing facilities, process plants, chemical, refinery, power, water/wastewater, or heavy industrial equipment).
- Strong understanding of:
- Industrial control systems (PLC, HMI, DCS)
- Instrumentation types, signal types, and control methodologies
- P&ID
- Electrical power and control distribution systems
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience with hazardous area classifications and intrinsically safe systems.
- Familiarity with panel fabrication, MCCs, VFDs, and motor controls.
- Experience supporting FAT/SAT or commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of additional CAD or design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) is a plus.
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to industrial job sites.
- Ability to climb ladders, walk job sites, and interact with construction environments when required.
