What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paid Video Production Intern position at Five Wings Arts Council?
Five Wings Arts Council
Part-Time | $18/hour | Summer 2026
The Five Wings Arts Council is seeking a creative and motivated Video Production Intern to document the impact of arts funding across our five-county region. This position will focus on producing a series of short, documentary-style videos that highlight the organizations and communities supported by Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Legacy funding.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in film, media production, journalism, or storytelling to build a professional portfolio while engaging directly with artists and communities.
The intern will create a cohesive series of 6–10 short videos (2–3 minutes each) that capture “snapshot” stories of funded nonprofit arts organizations. Each video will follow a consistent storytelling framework, highlighting:
- The work of the organization (what they do, who they serve)
- What changed or was made possible through funding
- Why this work matters to the community
These videos will collectively communicate the importance of continued public investment in the arts.
Final videos will be shared on YouTube and adapted into shorter clips for social media, community outreach, and communications with stakeholders, including legislators. The intern will also produce a short compilation video combining highlights from across the series.
- Conduct and schedule on-site interviews with grant-funded organizations
- Travel to 6–10 organizations across the Five Wings region
- Film video footage, including interviews and b-roll of arts activities and programs
- Edit and produce a minimum of 6 completed videos (2–3 minutes each)
- Create 1–2 short social media clips from each completed video
- Add captions to all videos to ensure accessibility
- Follow a consistent storytelling structure while allowing for creative interpretation
- Collaborate with staff on story development, scripting, and project planning
- Participate in weekly check-ins and meet established project milestones
- Provide final video files, along with organized raw footage and project files for archival use
- Present a summary of work, lessons learned, and selected videos to the Board of Directors at the end of the internship
- Current college student or recent graduate in film, media production, journalism, or a related field
- Experience filming and editing video content
- Strong storytelling, interviewing, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Five Wings region
- Access to reliable transportation
- Access to video equipment (DSLR/mirrorless camera or high-quality smartphone)
Preferred (but not required):
- Experience conducting interviews in a documentary or journalistic context
- Experience creating content for social media platforms
- Interest in arts, nonprofit work, or community storytelling
- $18/hour
- Part-time, flexible schedule (estimated 20/week)
- Summer 2026 (exact dates flexible)
- Travel reimbursement provided (mileage within Five Wings region and approved expenses)
The intern will be supervised by the Executive Director and supported by the Marketing/Promotions Committee. Guidance will be provided on storytelling framework, project development, and organizational context, while allowing space for creative direction.
Regular check-ins and milestone deadlines will help ensure steady progress throughout the internship.
- Travel will primarily consist of day trips within the region
- Efforts will be made to include a diverse range of organizations across geography and artistic disciplines
- All videos will be used by Five Wings Arts Council for storytelling and outreach; participating organizations will also be permitted to use the final videos
- A final compilation video will be created for long-term advocacy and communications use
