Senior Project Designer | Five South Architecture
The Senior Project Designer at Five South Architecture is a key design leader responsible for shaping the conceptual direction and architectural character of the firm’s projects. This role blends creative vision with technical knowledge to develop innovative, buildable design solutions that respond to client needs, site conditions, and code requirements. Working closely with the President, Studio Team Leader, and project teams, the Senior Project Designer drives the early phases of design and ensures design continuity through documentation and construction. This position also requires a polished, client-facing professional who can confidently lead meetings, present design concepts, facilitate discussions, and build strong relationships throughout the life of a project.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Leadership
- Represent the quality and professionalism of Five South Architecture while working directly with Clients and other team members.
- Lead the conceptual design process for projects, including space planning, massing, elevations, and material selection.
- Translate client goals and functional requirements into clear, compelling design solutions.
- Manage project deadlines and team members through high-level vision of project priorities and goals.
- Develop and present design narratives, diagrams, and visual materials to communicate ideas to clients, consultants, and internal teams.
- Provide design guidance to junior staff and ensure the firm’s design standards are upheld throughout each phase of the project.
Project Development & Collaboration
- Work closely with the Studio Team Leader and other team members to transition schematic design into technical documentation.
- Participate in internal design critiques and coordinate with consultants to maintain design intent through development and construction.
- Coordinate with engineers to integrate systems into the design in a thoughtful and efficient manner.
- Assist in producing renderings, graphics, and presentation packages for client meetings and approvals.
Team Engagement
- Collaborate with project managers to align design goals with project budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
- Serve as a design resource and mentor other staff within the firm.
Documentation & Detailing
- Support the development of design documentation, including floor plans, building sections, exterior elevations, and finish plans.
- Assist with key architectural detailing and specifications to support design consistency.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, ADA, and life safety requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field
- Experience working in Revit is a strong requirement. Candidates without Revit experience will not be considered for this role.
