Position Name: Lab Tech
Job Tasks, Objectives, Prerequisites, Etc.
Objective:
Employee will effectively operate the quality lab department making sure the daily tasks are completed on time and are within internal/external requirements.
Job Task
· All other duties as assigned by management Conform to all safety and environmental requirements
· Ensure accurate data collection and daily reporting logs and testing sheets are filled out in accordance with internal SOP.
· Ensure coatings are maintained and meet internal processing parameters through testing methods; Solids, Torque & Tension, Coating Weights, Adhesion, Salt Spray/Humidity, Film Thickness.
· Proficient in using or familiar with using testing equipment such as; Torque & Tension, Salt Spray/Humidity Chambers, Analytical Scales, Eddy Current Film Thickness, and Oven Datapaq equipment.
· Familiar with and ability to learn Lab Testing Procedures as they relate to coatings i.e. Viscosity (Thickness) testing, Solids, Cure, Oven Profiles etc...
· Perform laboratory test procedures as required once trained.
· The ability to process required customer /supplier samples. Processing of new product launches. (Pilot/PPAP runs)
· The knowledge and ability to perform assigned laboratory & test procedures.
· To accurately mix and test coating material/s at prescribed internal timeframes using Zhan cups and thermometers, as well as strain and disperse material/s per internal requirements.
· Lab experience or working in a Lab environment is helpful but not mandatory. (Note) Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
· This position will cross train in setting up coatings, checking viscosities (thickness) followed by Lab duties.
· Position will trained on days once proficient; the working shift will be 6am-2:30pm .
· Ensure department is assisting production of daily processing related activities.
· Review and audit the daily usage of materials within the facility.
· Review and audit the daily quality applications/tests for compliance.
· Perform those quality tasks as outlined: Incoming material qualification, oven profiles, usage/inventory of materials, and various equipment verifications.
· Randomly audit quality personnel to determine their effectiveness at their job function.
· Knowledge of all laboratory and engineering standards within the facility.
· Knowledge of various properties, tolerances, and types of materials being processed within the facility.
· Ensure all testing and reporting is in compliance with ISO 17025 through continual review of the data.
· Inspect that all necessary housekeeping/cleaning areas are satisfactory before your shift is complete.
· Member of the cross functional team for problem resolution; when the Director of Quality not present – is the team leader.
· Review/prepare/evaluate various new products/chemicals supplied to the company
· Continuous improvement activities related to the process.
· Monthly Inventory report
· Yearly management review reports – process related

Prerequisite
· Ability to lift and carry 40-45 pounds pails full of paint.
· Familiar with quality control policy & procedures required by internal quality laboratories.
· Has the ability to perform measurements and mathematics needed to support charting responsibilities and problems solving efforts.
· Knowledge of phosphate and coating pre-treatment cleaning processes helpful but not mandatory. To be able to operate a Hi-Lo/lift truck as needed to perform job functions.
· Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience within a metal finishing operation or a combination of 5 years of formal chemical education and coating experience.
· Must have a minimum of 3 years within a quality job function.
· Must have completed and passed required safety training provided by the company.
Education
· Associate degree or equivalent. Experience in the metal/coating finishing industry is a must
