What You’ll Do as a Highway Design Engineer
- Provide design support for highway projects, including drainage systems, roadway alignments, and geometric design, using industry-standard roadway design software.
- Prepare comprehensive plan sets, detailed specifications, technical reports, and accurate cost estimates.
- Maintain detailed records of highway design documents, reports, and budgets.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable state and local standards, regulations and safety codes.
- Promote and support QA/QC processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Collaborate with internal teams, clients, subconsultants, and public agencies, including state and local DOTs, to support seamless project delivery.
- Support project managers with schedules, documentation, and presentations.
- Assist with field inspections and roadway data collection.
Requirements
What You Bring, Your Expertise as a Highway Design Engineer
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, Master’s preferred
- 5-10 years of transportation experience with a background in highway design.
- EIT required; Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
- Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
- Familiarity with state DOT design standards (NYSDOT or PennDOT preferred)
