Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, surgeries, and treatments by preparing equipment, restraining animals, and monitoring patient status.
- Handle a variety of animals including dogs, cats, and equines with confidence using proper animal restraint techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Perform animal husbandry duties such as feeding, grooming, cleaning kennels, and maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the clinic.
- Support medical procedures by administering medications, inserting IV catheters, performing animal catheterization, and assisting with aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Maintain accurate record keeping of patient histories, treatments administered, medication logs, and other veterinary documentation.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and answering questions about animal behavior or welfare.
- Uphold strict use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety during all procedures and daily operations.
Experience
- Prior kennel experience or veterinary clinic experience is highly preferred to ensure familiarity with animal handling and clinic protocols.
- Experience in veterinary critical care or surgery support enhances your ability to assist in complex medical situations.
- Skills in front desk duties such as client communication, appointment scheduling, and record management are advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to handle various animals confidently—including dogs and horses—and perform tasks like medication administration or animal restraint.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology combined with hands-on experience in animal husbandry ensures effective support across all aspects of clinic operations.
- A background in aseptic technique, IV insertion, animal catheterization, and pet care contributes significantly to providing safe and effective treatment environments.
