About FirstLight

FirstLight Home Care of South Tulsa provides home-based care throughout the greater Tulsa area.

We're building an organization where growth doesn't mean lowering the clinical standard. As we grow, we want our nurses, training, systems, and quality of care to grow with us.

Our Culture of Care is built around relationships first, integrity, joy, growth, and making a difference every day.

Those values should show up in how we care for our patients, how we develop our nurses, and how we treat each other.

If you're an experienced home health RN who still loves patient care but is ready to have a larger impact by developing the nurses around you, we'd like to meet you.

If you’re the nurse other nurses naturally come to when they have a question, we want to talk to you.

We’re looking for an experienced home health RN who loves taking care of patients but also genuinely enjoys helping other nurses become better at what they do.

This is not a traditional nurse educator position where you spend your days in a classroom, and it’s not a full-time field RN position with training added to the side. We’re intentionally building a role that does both.

You’ll continue practicing in the field, caring for patients and staying connected to the realities of home health. You’ll also serve as a clinical leader for our RN and LPN team, helping onboard new nurses, strengthen clinical skills, validate competencies, and raise the standard of nursing care across the organization.

We try to run the business with clarity. You should always have a good understanding of what’s expected of you, how your role contributes to the bigger picture, and what success looks like here. In return, we value consistency, accountability, good judgment, and taking pride in the work you do.

What your role looks like

Part of your time will be spent providing skilled nursing care in patients’ homes throughout the Tulsa area.

You’ll perform assessments, provide wound care, support medication management, monitor changes in condition, develop and update care plans, communicate with physicians and other members of the care team, educate patients and families, and document your care accurately and on time.

The other part of your role is developing our nursing team.

You’ll help lead clinical orientation for newly hired RNs and LPNs, conduct skills and competency validation, provide ongoing nursing education, mentor nurses in the field, and help make sure the standards we teach are the standards our patients experience.

This is hands-on clinical education. Sometimes that means teaching in a structured setting. Sometimes it means accompanying a nurse into the field, demonstrating a skill, reviewing documentation together, or helping someone think through a difficult patient situation.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone our nurses trust as a clinical resource.

We want RNs and LPNs who are comfortable asking questions, discussing difficult cases, and continuing to develop their clinical skills. Your job is to help create that environment while also maintaining a clear and consistent standard of nursing practice.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Provide skilled nursing services in patients’ homes within the RN scope of practice and established plan of care.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and identify changes in patient condition requiring intervention or escalation.
  • Provide wound care, medication-related nursing services, patient education, and other skilled interventions as ordered and appropriate.
  • Develop, review, and update individualized plans of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Lead the clinical nursing portion of new-hire orientation for RNs and LPNs.
  • Conduct and document initial, ongoing, and annual nursing competency assessments and skills validation.
  • Provide field-based training, mentoring, and clinical support to RNs and LPNs.
  • Develop and deliver nursing education and in-services based on clinical needs, regulatory requirements, quality findings, and trends identified in the field.
  • Provide focused education and remediation when clinical or documentation performance gaps are identified.
  • Help nurses strengthen assessment, documentation, clinical reasoning, provider communication, and escalation skills.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for RNs and LPNs managing complex or unfamiliar patient situations.
  • Reinforce consistent standards for documentation and nursing practice.
  • Identify recurring clinical or documentation issues and help develop training to address the underlying cause.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Work closely with the Director of Nursing and clinical leadership to continuously improve nursing quality, education, and competency.

What success looks like here

A great Clinical Educator doesn't just complete an orientation checklist.

When a new RN or LPN finishes orientation, we should know that nurse is prepared to practice safely and independently in the field.

When you sign off on a competency, it should mean something.

When a nurse needs additional development, you recognize it early and help them improve.

When you notice the same documentation problem, assessment gap, or clinical mistake occurring across multiple nurses, you don't simply correct it repeatedly. You recognize the pattern and help us improve the training behind it.

And because you're still seeing patients yourself, your teaching stays connected to the actual work our nurses are doing every day.

Where this role can go

We’re growing, and we expect this role to grow with us.

Today, we need an experienced RN who can balance patient care with hands-on education and development of our nursing team. Over time, our goal is for the right person to help us build a more formal clinical education program for our RNs and LPNs.

That could mean developing standardized nurse orientation, creating stronger competency and preceptor programs, building continuing clinical education, identifying future nurse leaders, and helping establish consistent clinical standards as we add patients, nurses, and new service areas.

As the nursing team grows, we expect the balance of this position to evolve as well. The right person may spend less time carrying a traditional patient caseload and more time focused on education, competency, clinical development, and nursing quality.

We don't expect someone to walk in on day one with that entire system already built. We want someone who can help us build it.

For the right nurse, this is an opportunity to do more than step into an existing position. It's an opportunity to help shape what the position—and our clinical education program—becomes.

Before you apply, know this

This role requires someone who is comfortable being both a clinician and a teacher.

There will be days when you're seeing patients and days when you're orienting a new nurse, conducting competencies, providing education, or working alongside an RN or LPN in the field.

You don't need to know everything.

You do need to be clinically credible. You need to be comfortable saying, “I don't know—let's find the right answer,” when appropriate, and equally comfortable saying, “This isn't our standard, and here's how we need to do it,” when it matters.

Teaching here isn't about catching people doing something wrong. It's about building nurses who are confident, capable, and prepared to make good clinical decisions when they're working independently in someone's home.

If you love nursing but have discovered that one of the most rewarding parts of your career is helping other nurses become better at theirs, this may be the right role for you.
