Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and versatile Part-Time Organist/Accompanist to bring vibrant musical energy to our community. Duties
- Play service music for Sanctuary (Traditional) worship services (e.g., Sunday morning, confirmation, Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, special choral programs, etc.) throughout the year under the supervision of the Pastor of Worship and Music. This would include hymn accompaniments and all organ and keyboard selections, including but not limited to: Opening Voluntary/Prelude, Closing Voluntary/Postlude, Offertory, and music during Holy Communion.
- Communicate titles and composers of Opening and Closing Voluntaries and other service music through the Planning Center Online app before weekly bulletins are printed
- Accompany Wednesday rehearsals and special rehearsals for the Chancel Choir and other ensembles as needed/requested
- Substitute for other staff pianist as able when requested by the staff pianist or Pastor of Worship and Music
- Play for, or have the right of first refusal, on all weddings held at First United Methodist Church. If a wedding party wishes to employ another organist/keyboardist or music ensemble for their wedding, the organist/accompanist of First United Methodist Church will still be paid the fee as stated in the Wedding Guidelines of First United Methodist Church.
- As the organist’s schedule allows, play all service music and accompaniments at funerals or provide assistance in the recruitment of a substitute organist. Additional compensation should be provided by the family.
- Assist the Pastor of Worship and Music in finding a suitable substitute for Sundays (or other special services) the organist will miss, as agreed upon with the Pastor of Worship and Music. Four worship service days off per year with pay are provided. All absences are to be approved beforehand by the Pastor of Worship and Music.

Experience
- Proven experience as an organist or accompanist in a church setting demonstrating versatility across genres and styles
- Strong ability to read sheet music fluently and interpret complex arrangements with precision
- Demonstrated skill in musical improvisation, composition, and harmonizing melodies to enrich performances
- Experience blending different music genres seamlessly to create engaging programs
- Bachelor's degree in music preferred, but not required
Pay: $18,000.00 - $24,000.00 per year
