What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Treasurer/ Bookkeeper position at First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine?
Summary:
· To handle funds of church, keeping accurate records, and prepare financial reports that follow the policies and decisions made by the Committee on Finance
Qualifications:
· Strong Christian faith
· Training and/or experience in bookkeeping
· Solid verbal and written communication skills
· Trustworthy
· Experience with financial computer programs, especially QuickBooks
Areas of Responsibility
· Keep accurate and detailed financial records for all church activities
· Disburse funds to the causes for which they have been contributed
· Handle payroll for church employees
· Make recommendations and monitor investment of unused funds
· Make remittances to the conference treasurer as instructed
· Be certain that reserve or escrow funds are not to be used for current expenses
· Be a member of the charge conference, the church council, and the committee on finance
Essential Job Functions
· Work with the financial secretary to stay aware of amounts deposited, sources of funds received, and the purpose for which these funds were given
· Work with the chairperson of the Committee on Finance. Any questions about policies or procedures in handling funds should be cleared with the senior pastor
· Provide monthly reports to the Committee on Finance and reports as needed to other committees or persons in charge
· Work with the treasurer of the annual conference
· Be aware of all responsibilities you have to different governmental units. Use the employer's tax guide from the Internal Revenue Service for federal tax matters and be informed about state, city, or other rules that apply to church and payroll fun.
