What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Mechanic position at First Rate Excavate?
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safety First: Prioritize safety at all times and strictly follow company safety policies and procedures
- Preventative Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles
- On-Site Service: Travel to construction job sites to complete repairs and maintenance as needed
- Diagnostics & Problem Solving: Identify mechanical issues and troubleshoot equipment failures effectively
- Equipment & Tool Use: Safely operate diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Team Coordination: Collaborate with fellow mechanics and assist with complex repairs
- Physical Requirements: Lift and handle objects weighing up to 75 pounds
- Attendance & Reliability: Maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Overtime & Travel: Work overtime and overnight travel when required
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Class A CDL with valid Medical Card (or ability to obtain)
2β3 years of experience as a heavy equipment or fleet mechanic

Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled mechanic shop
