First Presbyterian Church of Dallas and its Day School are seeking a dedicated, versatile, and skilled Facilities Technician to join our Operations team. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment, while simultaneously delivering high hospitality and logistical standards for all campus events.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong work ethic, exceptional organizational skills, and the seamless ability to pivot between technical facility maintenance and hands-on event execution.
Schedule Note: This position requires a flexible schedule and includes Sunday as a workday. Weekly hours are pre-scheduled and routinely include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays to support special events.
Key Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with the Operations Team to deliver an integrated facilities support and services for the church campus.
Facility Maintenance & Operations

Building Maintenance: Perform general maintenance and repairs across the church and day school facilities, including carpentry, painting, drywall, minor masonry, and minor roof repairs.

HVAC, Electrical, & Plumbing: Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on HVAC systems (filter changes, belt replacements), electrical fixtures/wiring, and plumbing systems.

Preventative Maintenance: Implement and adhere to a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule for all building systems and equipment to minimize breakdowns and extend asset lifespans.

Work Order Management: Utilize and manage the internal digital work order system to track, prioritize, and efficiently complete maintenance requests from staff.

Inventory & Purchasing: Monitor and manage inventory for maintenance supplies and operational needs. Coordinate off-campus travel for operational errands, including picking up supplies and retrieving columbarium memorial plaques.

Janitorial Support & Sanitation: Ensure all restrooms and common areas are consistently clean, sanitized, and well-stocked throughout the day, particularly during peak usage periods, school hours, and major events.
Events, AV, & Hospitality

Event setup: Room setups, furniture layouts (tables, chairs, stages), and rapid breakdowns for church services, day school activities, and outside groups.

Sunday Worship & Pastoral Support: Provide mandatory on-site support for Sunday worship services. Work in tandem with Pastoral Staff for funerals, weddings, and special liturgical events, managing day-of preparation, setups, and immediate post-event breakdown.

AV & Technology Support: Set up, test, and operate basic AV equipment (including computers, projectors, microphones, and live sound equipment) for events, coordinating closely with the IT department.

Campus Security & Safety: Maintain an active on-site presence to uphold safety standards for the church building, Day School, and attached parking garage. Ensure facilities are properly locked, unlocked, and secured daily.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in commercial or large-scale residential building maintenance (general repairs, minor HVAC, electrical, and plumbing) and/or hands-on event logistics.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in using mobile/digital work order systems and basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Office). Ability to operate power tools and heavy maintenance equipment safely.

Soft Skills: Clear verbal and written communication, a sharp eye for detail, and a strong hospitality mindset.

Licensing & Background: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for off-campus errands. Must successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check and child safety screening (required for working around the Day School).
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working within a church, non-profit, or school environment.

Experience operating live sound mixing consoles, digital projectors, and event AV systems.
Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions

Must be able to perform heavy physical labor, including regular lifting and moving objects exceeding 50 lbs. (e.g., tables, chairs, staging, salt bags).

Ability to stand, walk, reach, climb ladders, and bend for extended periods.

Comfort working at heights (ladders, scaffolding) and in varying weather conditions (outdoor maintenance, heat, cold).
Other Duties as Assigned

Adaptability & Emergency Response: Due to the dynamic and historic nature of our church and active Day School, this position requires a high degree of flexibility. The employee will be expected to assist with emergency building situations (e.g., weather-related issues, leaks) and perform other duties, projects, and tasks outside the explicit scope of this job description as requested by leadership to support the overall mission of the community.
