Job Description
General Description: The teacher will share the responsibility with a Lead Teacher for the general supervision and management of a class of 8 children between the ages of one and two. The hours of a classroom teacher are Monday-Friday 7:30am-12:30pm. Teachers may work up an additional 2.5-12.5 hours per week in the Extended Day Program. The classroom teacher shall report to the Preschool Director.
Qualifications: The person selected for this position should be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, or have experience working with young children. This person should be knowledgeable about child development and early childhood education. He or she must be an empathetic and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
Required by licensing: Medical Exam, Criminal Background Check and Fingerprinting, Maltreatment Check, 2 Letters of Recommendation, Resume, Proof of Negative TB Test, On- line Pre-service and Child Abuse/Neglect Training, CPR Certification, copy of diploma or transcripts (if applicable).
Additional Requirements: Drug testing on request
*Must be certified by West Virginia Infant and Toddler (12-week course available in August)
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
⬥ Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the school and the standards of West Virginia licensing.
⬥ Gear the curriculum to meet the needs of the individual child with concerns for his/her interests, development, talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
⬥ Develop an appreciation for the individual child in relationship to his cultural and socioeconomic background.
⬥ Respond to each child with dignity and respect.
⬥ Foster each child’s awareness of his/her role as an integral member of a group
⬥ Design an ordered arrangement, appearance, and learning environment and developmentally appropriate instruction under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director.
⬥ Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
⬥ Attend all staff meetings. Assist in planning and implementing staff trainings.
⬥ Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
⬥ Work with the Preschool Director to keep one’s own personnel file up to date.
⬥ Be a team player with the staff as a whole and as a partner with your team teacher.
⬥ Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members, especially your team teacher.
⬥ Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents.
⬥ Communicate concerns of parents as soon as possible to administration.
⬥ Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
