ABOUT: FirstPres Church of Hayward (FPCH) is a historic congregation and missional community striving to love our world well. Guided by our core beliefs and a commitment to anti-racist practices, we seek to fulfill our mission by serving our community through our four areas of ministry: Community Outreach (homeless shelters, food pantry, Recovery Cafe, and more), Church Life (congregational ministry engagement), HGG Childcare Center, and The Chabot Theater.
DESCRIPTION: The responsibilities of this position are to be conducted under the supervision of the Shelter Manager. The Director of Outreach for Programs and Services will provide oversight and guidance and will conduct requisite reviews as to job performance.
RESPOSIBILITIES
- Provide monitoring and oversight at FPCH Resource Center, Winter Shelter and SHP locations
- Provide shelter services to unsheltered individuals. Includes (1) Conducting initial Intake of guests (2) Checking in guests for each activity and meal (3) Monitoring the facility on a regular schedule to ensure safety and security. (4) Serving meals during shifts to guests. (5) Diffusing high intensity situations in a positive and supportive manner (6) Ensure that all guests, staff and volunteers are following proper safety protocols regarding food service, social distancing and cleaning. (7) Properly document daily activities and incident reports by the end of each shift. (8) Distribution of food and supplies to guests by following protocol.
- Attend all staff meetings/trainings on time and contribute to content
- Work in collaboration with other staff to coordinate daily tasks and communication needed to safely and effectively operate shelter.
- Track client activities within databases
- Communicate supply inventory and ordering needs in a timely manner
- Day-to-day cleaning of the facility and workspace as needed. Ensuring a safe and clean working environment.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Organization skills and attention to detail.
- Computer experience, including online databases.
- High level of integrity with the ability to maintain confidential information.
- Must possess good time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work well with people, especially those with special needs.
- Experience engaging with a diverse population and ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations.
- Possess an interest in social justice and have experience doing advocacy work for underserved populations.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and engagement skills with a challenging population and in non-traditional work conditions.
- Experience with successful engagement to a diverse population includes working with clients, developing trust and rapport in non-traditional settings and unstructured environments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to carry items weighing up to 40 pounds, sit at a desk and use the computer and phone, as well as work on various administrative tasks. Repetitive use of hands and vision is required to do various functions. Reading and writing abilities are required.
Flexibility, speed and the ability to multitask and work under deadlines is required in order to meet job demands. Ability to stand for long periods of time, lifting, bending and flexibility of hands may be required to do various functions. Ability to hear and communicate well is required in order to help unsheltered guests, volunteers and Staff. Working indoors and outdoors will be required for this position.
Use of cleaning supplies and proper use of personal protective equipment at all times while on shift are required.
