Commercial Construction Superintendent

First Midwest Group, the leading real estate development organization in the Greater Rockford area, specializing in office, commercial, hospitality, and residential construction, is seeking highly motivated candidates to fill the position of Construction Superintendent. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overall onsite management of a project from inception to final acceptance, including all onsite planning, organization, and control of the work in the field to insure the timely and accurate completion of the work. This position will report to the Project Manager and will oversee field operations to see that the project is in compliance with contract documents and the specified project schedule. This position will be responsible for instructing and supervising on-site field workers and subcontractors, as well as self-performing certain tasks. Commercial Construction experience is required.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Developing the project schedule and reviewing the cost status with the Project Manager.
• Establishing a level of quality by which all completed work is measured.
• Provide office with timely and thorough documentation/reports.
• Maintain accurate documentation of key details.
• Maintain a good working relationship with all subcontractors and clients.
• Ensure accurate daily documentation of work orders/tickets, and understand subcontractor scope of work to avoid unnecessary change order.
• Ensure the jobsite security is maintained.
• Understand OSHA safety procedures to ensure all accidents on site are promptly reported and investigated, and assist in safety inspections by outside agencies.
• Maintain a safe and organized job site and insure all safety policies are maintained.
• Scheduling all inspections; ensuring all requisite permits are in place prior to the commencement of all relevant phases of the work.
• Assist with closeout of the project.

THIS IS AN ON-SITE POSITION LOCATED IN ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Technology or related field is highly preferred. Working knowledge of construction disciplines, cost control, construction sequencing, scheduling, safety regulations, drawings and construction documents is required. Candidates must be proficient in blueprint reading and have working knowledge of materials, processes, and equipment involved in all field activities. Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in general construction, with five (5) years serving in a primary Superintendent position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A strong understanding of building concepts, codes, regulations, laws and best practices is desirable.

This is a full-time, exempt position.
