What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant to the Youth Director position at First Methodist Church Seguin?
FUNCTION: A Biblical Model for Ministry is found in I Corinthians, where we learn of the varying
parts of the body and how those parts are able to come together to become one. We realize that God and
the body of Christ are far outreaching to help all understand God’s acceptance regardless of race, color,
gender, religion, physical disability, mental disability, or sexual orientation, and to reach out a hand of
love to all others so that they may experience the same.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Youth Assistant is a Non-Exempt Salaried position working 8 hours
per week. Hours of work required are Wednesday 4:30p-8:30p and 3 hours of administration time.
(Wednesday preferred) Holiday’s, Spring Break, and Summer schedule may be different.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Be a committed Christian with a High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
Preferred experience in working with youth, parents, and volunteers in a Church setting.
Have basic computer literacy and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with both youth and adults.
Pass the Conference background check and adhere to the requirements of the Ministry Safe
Program
Age requirement guidelines: 23 years of age or older per Ministry Safe requirements.
Weekly
LINE OF AUTHORITY: The Youth assistant is directly responsible to the Youth Director and through him/her to the Staff Parish Relations committee MINISTRY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
4. Weekly Requirement
a. Be on site Wednesday evenings to support, supervise and participate in junior and senior high activities.
b. Assist with the planning and programming of Wednesday evening youth programming with Youth Director.
c. Help plan, order, pickup and prepare weekly youth meal
d. Help teach Sunday school class each Sunday for various ages.
e. Teach Senior Small Group Wednesday night after Lesson.
f. Make certain clean-up and building security is complete.
g. Follow up weekly by phone, mail, or personal contact for those youth who were not in attendance.
h. Be a resource to parents of youth by keeping parents informed of youth activities.
i. Provide support to the Youth Director in all areas of Youth Ministry.
j. Build relationships with youth participants and their families.
5. Special Events
a. Attend quarterly Youth Ministry Team meeting.
b. Help plan and prepared 3 month Confirmation class On Sundays after church.
b. Retreats
i. As appropriate, attend special retreats for the youth.
ii. Assist with planning logistics and publication.
c. Service Projects/Mission Work/Community outreach
i. . Participate in all Youth calendar events.
ii. Assist with planning and logistics for one week-long trip per year, per group for mission work.
iii. Participate in the week-long mission trip.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
