Job Description
Position: Recreation Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervises: Recreation Assistant and designated recreational assistants
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Texas driver’s license with no more than two moving violations in the past three years, as documented by the Texas Driver Records Bureau for vehicle insurance purposes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid working knowledge of recreational equipment, facilities, and activities appropriate for children and teens.
- Ability to supervise and teach therapeutic recreational activities to both male and female residents.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically capable of supervising and participating in athletic activities with children and teens.
- Must be a certified lifeguard or willing to be trained and certified as a lifeguard
- Must be able to carry and move athletic equipment, devices, and supplies.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must immediately report to supervisor and the HR Officer any personal injury, illness, or medical condition that could affect job performance.
- Failure to report such conditions may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Note: This position is subject to mandatory drug testing. Employment is contingent upon acceptable results from the agency’s drug screening process.
Responsibilities / Tasks
- Immediately report any suspected abuse or neglect to the Executive Director or designee.
- Develop and deliver a structured recreation therapy program for resident children and teens.
- Schedule, supervise, and participate in recreational activities.
- Supervise recreational counselors, assistants, volunteers, and teachers assigned to recreation department activity venues.
- Teach residents the skills, techniques, and rules of various games and sports.
- Assess and document residents’ physical conditioning.
- Clean and maintain recreational equipment; order replacements and supplies with supervisor approval.
- Clean and maintain, or assist in maintaining, the swimming pool, gymnasium, playing fields, Community Center, and ROPES course. Also required to be a certified life guard
- Provide orientation and training classes to houseparent trainees and staff.
- Submit clear, accurate, and timely documentation regarding recreation-related accidents and behavior incidents.
11. Transport residents in a multi-passenger van for on-campus and off-campus recreational activities. Safely transport children using agency-provided vehicles.
12. Be prepared and able to perform personal restraints on residents when necessary.
- Assist with HCYR video production projects when directed by the Executive Director.
- Assist with hardware and software computer maintenance projects when directed by the Executive Director.
- Assist with interviewing job applicants and providing brief campus tours when directed by the HR Officer.
- Assist with the production and display of Chapel videos when directed by the Chaplain.
- Demonstrate responsibility, maturity, and positive role modeling in all interactions with staff and children; follow HCYR policies and code of conduct.
- Help create a growth-producing living environment that fosters interest in learning; be attentive to the physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic growth of children.
- Know and communicate all areas designated as “dangerous” or “off limits” to residents (e.g., commercial businesses, bodies of water, steep hills); teach appropriate safety measures.
- Fulfill professional development requirements, including CPR/First Aid and other HCYR/TDFPS/T3C-mandated trainings.
- Address behavior issues using HCYR and TDFPS-approved methods, including TBRI principles.
- Model responsible, mature behavior in all interactions; follow HCYR code of conduct and policies.
23. Work assigned schedule and adhere to Hill Country Youth Ranch’s timekeeping policy
- Document significant events in the Electronic Record System.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $2,500.00 - $3,000.00 per month
