Custodian

Purpose: First Lutheran Church is a growing faith-based community. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Church Custodian to create a welcoming and peaceful environment for church members and visitors.

Essential Functions:

• Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot cleaning in all public areas of the building, including bathrooms, worship areas, childcare, kitchens, and meeting rooms.

• Working with other maintenance team members and church staff to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.

• Observing proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions.

• Performing maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, equipment maintenance and making repairs.

• Assisting with event preparations and clean-up, e.g., set-up, take-down and store chairs and tables as needed.

• Monitor building safety and security, assuring doors are locked in accordance with building schedule.

• Perform general ground maintenance (weeding, mowing, shoveling, etc.)

• Work closely with church staff, volunteers, and leaders to coordinate facility-related tasks and support the overall church mission.

• Other duties as assigned

Specific Requirements

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant it.

• Committed to the mission and values of First Lutheran Church

• Must be able to manage time and multiple tasks and projects.

• Able to work collaboratively and be a team player.

• Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.

• Must understand calendar schedules and implications of multiple events to custodial needs and support.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Custodial experience or training may be required.

• Attending staff meetings.

• Other responsibilities as deemed necessary.

Working Conditions

• Sits, stands, bends, reaches, and moves intermittently during work.

• Works beyond normal hours for planned functions of the church and emergencies.

• Communicates with supervisor and other church staff, volunteers, members, and guests.

• Is exposed to slippery conditions, odors, outside weather conditions, etc.

Accountability:

• The Church Custodian reports to the Facility Manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
