What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President, Payment Operations position at FIRST INTERNET BANK?
About the Position:
As the Vice President, Payment Operations you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing payment-related activities, ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and a high level of customer service. You will provide leadership, direction, and guidance to assist the Bank in achieving its operational objectives while leading the payment operations team, managing operational and fintech-related payment processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Will Do:
- Partner with leadership to translate strategic business objectives into the Bank’s daily operations by developing the appropriate organizational structure, building the team, assuring ongoing training for excellence and maintaining a high focus of collaboration that translates into customer satisfaction
- Manage and lead the Payment Operations team, including hiring, training, performance management, coaching, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Manage and oversee the department to ensure the timeliness of all functions including wire transfers, ACH file processing, real time payments, card support, returns, RDC and mobile capture
- Oversees all payment activity with fintech partnerships, including monitoring and reporting of wires, ACH, and real time payments.
- Maintain the ACH Risk Module with the Federal Reserve
- Coordinate the onboarding of fintech partnerships to ensure seamless payment operations, including management of all Federal Reserve related activity with routing numbers
- Perform risk assessments of fintech activity with respect to payment operations and ensure risk is maintained within the Bank’s risk appetite
- Manage functions with the Federal Reserve to ensure timely processing of all payment functions
- Develop and maintain departmental procedures and recommend policy enhancements to manage risk, improve operational controls, increase efficiency, etc.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (e.g., Reg E, BSA, NACHA rules, Reg. D, state laws, subpoenas, levies, garnishments, court orders, escheatment, B-notice, W-9 compliance)
- Participate as a member in appropriate committees and ensure that they meet their obligation to the Board as described in various policies
- Develop, maintain and monitor selected management information systems/reports
- Effectively communicate with and manage internal and vendor relationships in support of the Bank’s operations
- Identify and implement technologies and software solutions that improve efficiency, enhance monitoring capabilities, and support operational objectives
- Assist with payment modernization initiatives, such as FedNow, real-time payments, and other digital growth objectives
- Ensure the Bank maintains robust plans and capabilities to continue essential payment functions in the event of disruption or disaster
- Perform other duties as assigned

- A minimum of eight years of relevant experience as well as applicable education and training in business, finance, payments, banking or a related discipline
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience managing teams and complex operations
- Extraordinary attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Demonstrated organizational skills to successfully manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Proven ability to establish sound systems and controls
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of banking regulations and procedures
- Demonstrated administrative and management experience
- Interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with all levels of employees, management, and third parties
- Ability to identify issues and opportunities, independently assess options, recommend solutions and execute implementation plan
- Drive to stay abreast of latest banking payment trends and technologies
- Excellent computer and technical skills, specifically with the Microsoft Office Suite
