Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will lead the design process from initial concept to manufacturing release. Your primary focus will be designing precision sheet metal enclosures and integrating complex electronic components (PCBs, sensors, wiring harnesses) into robust, functional assemblies.
The ideal candidate is a SolidWorks power user who understands how to balance aesthetic industrial design with the practicalities of the shop floor.
Modeling and Engineering Design:
- Utilize input from sales and customers to create unique designs.
- Develop 3D models and detailed 2D production drawings of sheet metal parts, weldments, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles to reduce costs and lead times, specifically for CNC punching, laser cutting, and brake press operations.
- Collaborate with the fabrication team to oversee the build of first-article prototypes and iterate designs based on testing feedback.
- Occasionally travel to vendors (mostly local).
Analysis and Optimization:
- Create and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) within our [ERP/PLM] system.
- Design internal layouts for electronic hardware, ensuring proper fitment, thermal management, and cable routing.
- Provide support during the building and installation process, ensuring that product is built properly and according to design specification.
- Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis.
Manufacturing Documentation:
- Ensure designs meet industry standards (e.g., IP ratings, UL, or ISO) where applicable.

- Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
Confidentiality
· The Mechanical Designer may be exposed to confidential company information relating to vendor/customer relationships, products, organizational growth strategies and company strategic plans. A high degree of confidentiality is required.
Qualifications
- Education: MET, Associates Degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in mechanical design or product development.
- Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) PDM preferred, extensive SolidWorks Professional experience required.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
This is an on-site position. The physical requirements of the job in an office environment, including, but not limited to the following: prolonged sitting while operating computer and office equipment, occasional walking, minimal lifting and reaching. Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
