First Hawaiian Bank is seeking an External Affairs & Community Impact Manager to join the Community Relations Division. In this role, the External Affairs & Community Impact Manager will be responsible for advancing the Bank's external engagement strategy across corporate philanthropy, government affairs and community relations. This role will serve as a key liaison between the Bank and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational values, strategic priorities, and public policy objectives. This position will closely collaborate with senior leadership to strengthen the Bank's reputation, influence and community impact.
Compensation:
The annual salary range for this role is $115,000 - $145,000/per year; commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be hired for the level of the position that aligns with their experience.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00PM; hours may vary
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in public policy, communications, political science or related field required
Master's degree in public policy, communications, political science or related field preferred
7 years of professional experience in external affairs, government relations, corporate social responsibility, community engagement or related field, with demonstrated understanding of public policy processes and stakeholder engagement required
10 years of professional experience in external affairs, government relations, corporate social responsibility, community engagement or related field preferred
Background representing organizations in high-visibility public forums, community settings, or policy-related environments required
Experience working with corporate philanthropy, community investment, or corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs
Demonstrated experience engaging with nonprofit, government, regulatory and community-based organizations, with a strong understanding of their operating environments
Proven ability to develop and manage strategic partnerships with diverse external stakeholders, including elected officials, civic leaders, philanthropic institutions and community organizations
Experience navigating public policy processes, legislative environments, and government relations at the local and state levels
Proven ability to anticipate, assess, and respond to emerging issues that may affect organizational reputation or stakeholder trust
Understanding of regulatory, legislative, and compliance considerations relevant to a financial institution or public-facing entity
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and demonstrated skill in translating external trends into accountable strategies
Ability to set measurable goals, evaluate program outcomes, and report effectively on impact and performance
Ability to represent the Bank with professionalism and credibility to diverse audiences, including public officials, community partners and external stakeholders
Exceptional relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills suited for senior-level interactions
Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively across departments and levels of leadership
Able to prepare executive-level briefing materials, policy statements and stakeholder communications
Demonstrated proficiency in managing sensitive issues, exercising sound judgement and ensuring alignment with organizational risk, compliance and reputation management standards
Ability to influence and advise senior leadership and Board members on external affairs, community impact and policy matters
