Christian Education Director Job Description
Title: Part-Time Christian Education Director of First Church Congregational
Reports to: Pastor of First Church Congregational and Church Board
Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in childhood education, strong faith commitment to mission of the church, strong interpersonal skills, team-player, self-starter, completion of Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, sparkling personality and iron-clad constitution.
Compensation: 10 hours per week for 42 weeks at $25 per hour, including two hours on Sunday mornings (mid-August to mid-June) ; $10,500 total salary.
Benefit: one paid prescheduled Sunday off during the work term; sick time.
General Responsibilities:
· Coordinate Christian education and special programming for children/youth in consultation with the Christian Education Committee and the Pastor.
· Maintain a three month look forward calendar of lessons, activities and community service opportunities for the youth in consultation with the Christian Education Committee and the Pastor.
· Acquire and/or adapt curriculum materials approved by the Christian Education Committee.
· Recruit, train, and support volunteer teachers and youth leaders. Confirm CORI screenings are completed for all volunteers.
· Acquire and organize necessary supplies within budget.
· Share in the leadership of worship during children’s time in the Sunday service by invitation of the pastor.
· Attend meetings of the Christian Education Committee and prepare a written report for the meeting.
· Work with the Office Manager to update any publications of the church, paper and electronic, that communicate the activities of the Christian Education ministries. This includes maintaining up-to-date record of Sunday School registrations and attendance for church office, Pastor and the Christian Education Committee.
· Suggest ways to engage parents and families in community building programs as well as respond to questions and suggestions from parents, and community members.
· Liaise with the Director of Chapel School on activities of common interest to Chapel families.
· Prepare yearly goals for the Christian Education program and report periodically to the Pastor and the Christian Education Committee on the progress made to achieve those goals
· Look for continuing education programs/opportunities offered by the United Church of Christ on faith formation- i.e. professional development.
· Perform other duties from time to time as directed by the Pastor and meet with the Pastor for updates and sharing on a regular basis.
· Communicate with Pastor for emergency or other needs for time away from duties.
· Be familiar with the First Church Safe Church policy and give guidance to its implementation.
