What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Sexton position at First Baptist Church of Stratford?
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Church Sexton is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and overseeing the care of all church properties to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality. These responsibilities facilitate in the preparedness for worship and ministry activities. The Sexton works under the supervision of the Pastor with the discretion to re-assign supervision. Additionally, the Sexton will support the mission and values of the church.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Open and secure all church buildings for services, meetings, and events.
- Set up rooms, furniture, and equipment for worship services and church activities.
- Maintain and oversee cleaning of all church facilities as designated.
- Coordinate services with contracted cleaning companies.
- Maintain and/or oversee grounds maintenance, including snow and ice removal.
- Perform minor building and equipment repairs.
- Identify and request church maintenance and cleaning supplies.
- Monitor HVAC systems for safe and efficient operation.
- Oversee vendors and contractors providing materials and services to the church.
- Assist with church security and safety compliance.
- ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Experience in building maintenance repair and cleaning.
- Experience using various hand tools and power tools in making preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must have a valid State of Connecticut Driver’s License.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- High School Diploma
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 85 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Must be able to climb stairs, walk, sit, push, pull and move continuously during work hours.
- WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work in outside in weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow and ice.
- Must have flexibility in schedule to include weekends and evening hours as required.
