Job Summary

We are seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable Preschool Afterschool Teacher to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children ages 1–5 during our afterschool program. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, enjoys working as part of a team, and is committed to supporting children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play and structured activities.

Qualifications

· Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

· Must have or complete CPR/First Aid, TB test, Medical Report, and DCD Criminal Background Check.

· Must have or complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Maltreatment training.

· Must be willing to complete additional trainings as necessary.

· It is preferred that teachers have one year of experience in a center or two years in a family child care home, or 20 hours of clock training in child development within first 6 months of employment.

· It is preferred that teachers hold or enroll in coursework for North Carolina Early Childhood Credential within first twelve months of employment.

· A basic love for children and commitment to co-workers is essential.

· As faith-based instruction is part of the mission and structure of our program, Teacher Assistants are expected to be active members of Christian churches, and to understand and agree with the philosophy and goals of the program.

Job Description

· Plan and execute an educational program of age-appropriate activities for children in care and identifying each child’s individual capabilities and needs

· Creating a nurturing, learning environment

· Ensure the welfare, health, and safety of the children

· Organize and maintain the classroom, activity areas, materials and supplies. Keep Teacher and Director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired and replaced.

· Maintain constant supervision of children

· Take daily attendance and keep up with all required reports pertaining to the group

· Make the most of the use of your time and abilities

· Establish and maintain effective and professional communication with parents

· Build good communications with other staff to create a professional atmosphere

· Attend pre-service and in-service training as needed

· Keep the Director informed of any classroom problems

· Know/learn to recognize symptoms of child abuse/neglect and understand duty to report suspected abuse/neglect

· Cooperate in maintaining a happy environment in which child may come to know his freedom and limitations.

· Be firm but kind with each child and treat each child consistently in the patterns established by the Teacher.

· Give each child the attention needed to ensure his/her best welfare. (This relates to eating, toileting, play, crafts, health, safety, etc.)

· Keep the classroom clean and orderly, throughout the day after the children are gone each day. (This includes sweeping the floors, cleaning tables, disinfecting toys, etc.)

· Abide by all policies of the preschool.

· Assist the Teacher with bulletin boards, newsletters and other printed materials.

· Always maintain a professional appearance, both in dress and hygiene.

· Attend any classes, workshops and other training opportunities as necessary.

Pay: $11.00 - $13.00 per hour
