About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join a growing construction team specializing in complex industrial, healthcare, institutional, and laboratory projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate and competitive mechanical and plumbing estimates for large-scale projects while supporting preconstruction efforts from concept through bid submission.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in mechanical and plumbing estimating, cost analysis, subcontractor management, and design-build environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare complete mechanical and plumbing estimates for projects exceeding $10 million.
- Develop estimates for Design-Build, Design-Assist, and Hard Bid projects.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
- Develop comparative estimates and evaluate alternative design solutions.
- Solicit and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare subcontractor scopes of work and negotiate pricing and contracts.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams during preconstruction.
- Support project controls activities including material takeoffs, purchase orders, submittals, and procurement planning.
- Mentor and support junior estimators.
- Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project requirements.
Required Qualification
- Proven experience estimating mechanical and plumbing systems on large commercial, industrial, healthcare, or institutional projects
- Experience preparing estimates for projects valued at $10M
- Strong background in Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Design-Assist project delivery methods
- Ability to interpret schematic designs and develop conceptual estimates
- Experience reviewing contracts, specifications, and construction documents
- Experience negotiating with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
- Knowledge of project controls, material takeoffs, purchasing, and procurement processes
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualification
- HVAC ductwork estimating experience
- Experience in self-perform mechanical contracting environment
- Experience mentoring and developing estimating team
Knowledge of healthcare, laboratory, industrial, and institutional construction project
Salary : $80,000 - $120,000
