About the job
As an Accountant/Office Manager on the Finance team, you'll have financial driven responsibilities including billing, A/R, cash receipts, collections, A/P, vendor transactions, employee expenses, and customer interaction. You will also be the point of contact for office related tasks.
This role combines AR oversight with hands-on contribution. You'll collaborate to work across departments and companies, while keeping the daily wheels turning processing customer, vendor, and employee transactions. It also supports requests for company meetings, help with Fedex labels or landlord correspondence.
A key focus of this position is ensuring timeliness and quality of deliverables. You'll champion these priorities throughout each responsibility, while bringing strong problem-solving skills and a drive for continuous process improvement. Success in this role requires the ability to deliver accuracy, a high level of quality, and confidence in everything you produce.
The preferred candidate will live close enough to work in our Newburyport, Massachusetts office 1-2 days per week. Limited outside travel may also be required.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Write detailed documentation describing how new billing features work, and proactively update documentation for existing features as needed
- Manage the application of payments on a daily basis
- Manage the processing and application of vendor payments
- Help manage employee expense reports and credit card transactions
- Ensure AR stays current and drive the collection process supporting those efforts
- Work closely with the NetGalley promotions team to generate their invoices
- Maintain oversight of the NetGalley LLC changes and recurring revenue invoicing
- Maintain oversight of the Firebrand Technologies changes and recurring revenue invoicing
- Be customer point of contact for all finance related inquiries
- Process check deposits and scan incoming mail
- Coordinate activities for team or management meetings

To be successful, we ask that you have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2-3 years experience in a billing or accountant role
- Experience with performing AR activities including cash application and billing
- The ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail
- A strong desire to own your space and become our subject matter expert
- The ability to self motivate and be able to work independently
- The drive to perform your responsibilities at a high level
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to function and effectively prioritize in a high-paced environment
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, Google Suite and Excel
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Travel Required
In addition to working from the Newburyport, Massachusetts office 1-2 days a week, limited outside travel may also be required.
