What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Operating Officer - Prop Trading position at Fionics?
Chief Operating Officer — NY Proprietary Trading Firm
Help a NY-based proprietary trading firm build out a hedge fund business on top of their existing operation — without losing the hands-on culture that got them here.
The firm runs multiple trading businesses under one roof across equities, futures, and digital assets. They're now standing up a hedge fund alongside it. This role owns the operational and structural work that makes that possible.
What you'll own:
- Register a broker-dealer and lead BD compliance
- Onboard a secondary clearer and strengthen existing prime relationships
- Oversee build-out of real-time risk systems across trading teams
- Unify live balance tracking, accounting, and reconciliation
- Stand up additional international entities and manage local partnerships
- Expand clearing into new regional markets
- Recruit and onboard new PMs
- Support hedge fund capital raising and clearing relationships
You'll be a fit if you have:
- Direct experience registering a broker-dealer and operating under BD compliance
- Deep familiarity with US equities, CME futures, and clearing relationships
- A strong reputation in the space — useful for fundraising and clearing
- A genuine operator's instinct: you build, you don't just oversee
About the culture: This is a founder-led firm, not a corporate fund. Leadership stays close to the work, and senior hires are expected to operate hands-on rather than purely through delegation. The team is flat, fast-moving, and direct.
