What are the responsibilities and job description for the HPC Architect position at Fintal Partners?
An established global trading firm, operating for over three decades as a consistent provider of liquidity to financial markets worldwide. With teams across the US, Europe, Asia Pacific, and India, its quantitative researchers, engineers, traders, and operations professionals share a collaborative, high-performance culture and a strong commitment to giving back. The firm has built its reputation on entering new markets early, adopting new technologies ahead of the curve, and continuously evolving both its research environment and its trading strategies.
We operate at the intersection of markets and advanced computing, and our edge comes from continually investing in technology that others haven't adopted yet. We're looking for an outstanding HPC Systems Architect to take ownership of our worldwide high-performance computing footprint - designing it, building it, tuning it, and scaling it to meet increasingly demanding computational workloads.
What You'll Own
Architecture & Build
- Design and lead the rollout of advanced HPC systems built for demanding workloads, including large-scale machine learning
- Bring emerging technologies into the stack to expand raw compute capability
- Assess and choose hardware and software platforms, tuning the environment for performance, scale, efficiency, and reliability
- Work with teams across regions to define and uphold architectural standards and best practice across all HPC environments
- Make sure systems and teams interoperate cleanly, producing a unified high-performance platform aligned to long-term commercial objectives
Performance Tuning
- Build and roll out approaches that continuously improve system throughput and resource efficiency across the HPC estate
- Put advanced monitoring and analytics in place to surface and clear bottlenecks before they bite
Delivery & Project Leadership
- Run HPC projects end to end — from initial concept to production — delivered on schedule, on budget, and to a high standard
- Manage resourcing, budget, and timelines across concurrent workstreams
- Set the policies governing how compute time, storage, and network capacity are allocated across users, balancing priority, need, and fairness
Partnership
- Serve as a technical advisor to senior leadership on where HPC is heading and what it means for the trading business
- Work directly with quantitative researchers, software engineers, and traders to turn their computational requirements into scalable, high-performance solutions
- Coordinate with global counterparts on system design, capacity allocation, and parallel delivery as the research environment continues to expand
- Success here is measured by how well the HPC environment is utilized and how satisfied its users are
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable discipline
- A substantial track record (typically 10 years) in HPC architecture, systems design, or a similar role in a large-scale compute environment
- Excellent communicator, comfortable making complex technical topics land with non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to shape decisions and get globally distributed teams pulling in the same direction
Strong command of several of the following:
- HPC system design and performance optimization
- Linux systems administration
- Enterprise storage platforms (Vast, DDN, Isilon or similar)
- HPC orchestration and management tooling (Kubernetes, Docker, Slurm)
- High-performance processors and compute accelerators such as GPUs
- Low-latency network design and high-speed interconnects (InfiniBand, Ethernet)
- Data center design and optimization
- AI/ML frameworks and how they slot into HPC infrastructure
- Python, Go, C , or comparable languages
