Summary
This position is responsible for promoting public health through activities/services related to: health promotion and education, epidemiological surveillance and disease prevention, immunization, and lab testing/diagnostic and curative care. The position is under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or his/her designee.
Definition and Examples of Work

Provide direct public health/nursing services
Provide public health services, triage, immunizations, health assessments, treatment, and counseling; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
Communicate with other department and county staff, pharmacists, and health care providers to ensure adequate health and nutrition care are being provided.
Complete testing, screening, monitoring, and medication ordering/recording procedures; complete all documentation.
Maintain all charts as needed; ensure compliance with county/state/federal mandates/statutes.
Manage and assist with the implementation and coordination of department programs, processes, and procedures (e.g., WIC services, vendor management coordination, community outreach, disease investigations, court reporting, walk-in clinic, etc.)
Complete front desk and clerical duties as required; schedule appointments, maintain and update files/records, determine program eligibility, etc.
Offer additional support as needed dependent upon department
Please note: WIC Registered Nurses do not participate in immunizations, treatment, medication ordering. Instead, they focus on counseling nutrition education and breastfeeding support.

Coordinate and present Public Health programs to community agencies, groups or schools as needed dependent on department.
Attend training, workshops, or seminars to further education.
Participate in staff meetings and interagency planning as required.
Provide offsite clinics as determined by community and department needs.
Complete and develop reports as required.
Maintain medication inventory and medical equipment as needed.
Assist with research and reporting for program-specific activities.
Assist other department employees as needed.
Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
