Position Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced Landscape Architect to join our team. This role will be responsible for providing landscape architecture services for stream restoration, wetland creation and enhancement, stormwater management (SWM), and transportation-related projects. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of project development, including design, planning, field assessments, regulatory compliance, permitting support, and construction documentation.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and design capabilities, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop planting designs for stream restoration, wetland creation/enhancement, stormwater management, and transportation projects.
- Prepare landscape architecture plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
- Conduct field assessments, site investigations, and watershed evaluations.
- Perform forest conservation compliance assessments and mitigation site searches.
- Monitor mitigation sites and prepare associated technical reports.
- Utilize GIS, GPS, and CADD technologies to support field investigations and plan development.
- Prepare project documentation, reports, presentations, and technical deliverables.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, environmental scientists, and regulatory agencies.
- Support permitting efforts and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) in Maryland or eligible for immediate reciprocity in Maryland.
- Minimum of 6 years of professional landscape architecture experience.
- Experience developing contract documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and project management.
- Familiarity with the Maryland Forest Conservation Act and native/adaptive plant materials in the Northeastern United States.
- Knowledge of Maryland Stormwater Management and Erosion & Sediment Control regulations.
- Proficiency with GPS and GIS technologies for technical fieldwork.
- Proficiency with CADD software, including MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading the preparation of reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Experience working independently and within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience leading landscape design efforts from conceptual planning through construction.
- Experience preparing permit applications and knowledge of Maryland permitting processes.
- Proficiency with SketchUp, Photoshop, and Adobe Creative Suite for graphics, renderings, and public presentation materials.
- Knowledge of current landscape architecture trends, technologies, and industry best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
