Lead Sign Installer & Service Technician
Company: Finishing Touch Signs
Location: Wausau, WI (and surrounding Central Wisconsin areas) occasional out of state travel required
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM end of day time will vary each day depending on job and location (Overtime as necessary)
**Compensation:** $20.00 – $35.00 / hour (based on experience)

We are looking for a hands-on, dependable Lead Sign Installer to join our team, run jobsites efficiently, and ensure high-quality standards that meet and exceed our customers' expectations.
The Role
As our Lead Sign Installer, you will oversee and execute the proper surveying, placement, installation, wiring, and **ongoing maintenance** of custom signage in the field. This role requires the ability to work independently as well as lead a team, maintaining a professional attitude while interacting with customers, contractors, and project managers. You will ensure that signs not only get installed correctly but remain operational and visually appealing.
Key Responsibilities
Installation, Service, & Technical Execution
Install Custom Signage: Direct and execute the installation of exterior and interior signs—including channel letters, monument signs, illuminated cabinets, Electronic Message Centers (EMCs), flex faces, and vinyl graphics—as directed by design proofs.
Service & Repair: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with existing signage. Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including replacing lighting systems, ballasts, LED modules, and wiring as needed.
Installation Methods: Securely install signage utilizing various mechanical processes such as welding, bolting, screwing, and structural anchoring.
Electrical Work: Perform basic wiring and properly connect illuminated signage and digital displays to power sources.
Heavy Equipment: Safely and confidently operate bucket trucks, lifts, cranes, and a variety of power and hand tools.
Project & Site Management
Site Preparation & Inspections:
Complete site surveys to ensure the success of future projects, safely load signage for travel, and conduct routine field inspections to ensure signs meet safety and quality standards.
Job site Problem Solving:
Read and interpret shop drawings, site plans, and permits while proactively troubleshooting on-site mechanical or tensioning issues. **Assist with emergency service calls when required.**
Communication & Administration:
Use provided tablet/ paperwork to review work orders, report job progress to management, maintain accurate service records, and obtain completion photos and customer sign-offs as required.
Professional Interaction: Communicate effectively and respectfully with customers and team members on active jobsites, representing the company professionally at all times.
Safety & Maintenance
Safety Compliance: Complete all necessary safety training, enforce OSHA safety standards on site, and lead by example.
Fleet Management:Ensure installation trucks are properly stocked, organized, and cleaned daily.
Qualifications
Experience: 1 years of hands-on experience in sign installation, sign service, or a related mechanical/building trade (construction, electrical, HVAC).
Driving Record & Travel: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. A Class A or B CDL is a significant advantage and highly preferred. Able to get a federal medical card for driving the bucket trucks. Must be comfortable with regional travel and occasional overnight stays for larger projects.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 75 lbs, work outdoors in varying, sometimes extreme, weather conditions, and work comfortably at elevated heights (exceeding 60 feet In lifts, bucket trucks, and rooftops and lower heights with ladders).
Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, master of a tape measure and the ability to work independently without direct supervision or direct a small crew efficiently.
Work Ethic: Self-motivated with a willingness to work overtime and stay until the job is fully complete.
