Job Title: Instructional Designer, Training Curriculum Development
Location: Livermore, CA (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 Months Contract

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to support the development of technical training and apprenticeship programs within the utility industry. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing instructor-led and on-the-job training programs that enhance workforce capabilities and support operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have strong instructional design experience, expertise in adult learning methodologies, and a proven ability to translate complex technical content into engaging learning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop instructor-led training (ILT) and on-the-job training (OJT) programs for technical and apprenticeship-related job functions.
- Conduct comprehensive task analyses to identify learning requirements and performance expectations.
- Develop learning objectives, curriculum structures, lesson plans, facilitator guides, student materials, job aids, assessments, simulations, scenarios, videos, and other learning assets.
- Apply adult learning principles and established instructional design methodologies throughout the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and validate content.
- Participate in milestone reviews including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train-the-trainer sessions.
- Create clear instructional content, scripts, and learning materials tailored to technical audiences.
- Review, revise, and improve training deliverables based on stakeholder feedback.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining project timelines and quality standards.
- Identify risks, communicate challenges proactively, and recommend solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing instructor-led training and on-the-job training programs for technical skills.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design methodologies and adult learning theories.
- Demonstrated experience conducting detailed task analyses.
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Excellent project management, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing multi-year technical training programs for adult learners.
- Experience working within utilities, energy, construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other technical environments.
- Familiarity with QuestionMark, Author-It, and/or Articulate Storyline.
- Experience with PG&E Academy or utility industry training programs.
- Experience developing blended learning solutions, assessments, simulations, and performance support tools.

Work Environment
- Hybrid role with approximately 25% onsite presence required at Livermore, San Ramon, Oakland, and Daly City locations.
- Candidates must reside within service territory, preferably in the Bay Area.
- Monthly to quarterly travel to facilities is required.
- Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to support project milestones and stakeholder meetings.
