About the Role
PG&E is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join the Electric Operations Excellence team. This role focuses on translating complex business problems into advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that drive operational efficiency and strategic decision-making.
You will work closely with product owners, technical leads, and business stakeholders to build, deploy, and communicate high-impact data science solutions across Electric Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and execution of high-complexity data science and machine learning models
- Translate business needs into well-defined analytical and modeling problems
- Select appropriate algorithms, training datasets, and evaluation techniques
- Build, train, validate, and deploy models for real-world operational use
- Communicate insights, model results, and implications clearly to business and executive stakeholders
- Balance analytics value, modeling approaches, and technology choices with a bias toward action
- Mentor junior data scientists and collaborate within cross-functional Scrum teams
- Develop forecasting, capacity, demand, and expenditure models
- Assess business and operational impacts of modeling assumptions and methodologies
- Partner with business leaders to drive performance and data-driven decision-making
- Create process documentation, business objects, and analytics workflows
- Manage multiple complex projects with clear schedules and delivery milestones
Top Skills & Qualifications
Machine Learning & Analytics
- Hands-on experience building and deploying ML models
- Strong understanding of feature engineering, model evaluation, and optimization
- Experience with forecasting, Bayesian methods, and graph analytics
Mathematics & Statistics
- Strong foundation in probability, statistics, linear algebra, and statistical inference
Programming & Tools
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL (Scala a plus)
- Experience with Pandas, Scikit-learn, Spark, or similar frameworks
- Experience with Jupyter, Zeppelin, or other data science notebooks
- Cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and analytics workflows
Communication & Presentation
- Ability to present complex insights clearly through dashboards, graphics, and executive-level presentations
- Strong stakeholder engagement and storytelling skills
Domain Knowledge (Preferred)
- Utility or energy industry experience
- Familiarity with Palantir Foundry
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
- Understanding of project and program management principles
Education & Experience
- Bachelorβs degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Applied Sciences, or related field
- PLUS 8 years of relevant experience
- OR
- Masterβs degree with 6 years of experience

- PhD with 3 years of experience
- Minimum 5 years of data modeling experience
