Job Description

Acting Instructor

Position Title: Acting Instructor
FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: The Fine Arts Association, Willoughby, Ohio

Position Summary

The Acting Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, high-quality acting instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels. The instructor fosters creativity, confidence, collaboration, and artistic growth while supporting The Fine Arts Association's mission to inspire, enrich, and educate through the arts. Instruction may include acting techniques, improvisation, scene study, audition preparation, character development, and performance skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach acting classes, workshops, camps, and special programs for children, teens, and adults.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and curricula that align with program goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Teach a variety of acting techniques, including improvisation, scene study, monologue preparation, character analysis, voice, movement, and audition skills.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity and artistic exploration.
  • Prepare students for performances, showcases, recitals, or presentations as required.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with students, parents, and FAA staff regarding class activities and student participation.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students while maintaining appropriate classroom management practices.
  • Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and other organizational events as requested.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to support interdisciplinary programming and special events.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Theater, Acting, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching acting or theater arts to children, teens, and/or adults.
  • Strong knowledge of acting techniques, theatrical performance, and stage practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor students of varying ages and abilities.
  • Experience directing performances or preparing students for productions preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as program schedules require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout instructional spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical acting exercises and stage movement.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

The Acting Instructor works in classrooms, studios, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues. Work schedules vary based on program enrollment and may include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and seasonal programming.
