ABOUT CALIFORNIA CLIMATE ACTION CORPS (CCAC): California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is a Governor’s initiative national service program led by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor and implemented by Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) dedicated to advancing climate actions that engage community members, cultivate change, and leave a lasting impact. CCAC is part of a larger statewide initiative to address the climate crisis by placing emerging leaders with public agencies, nonprofits, tribal communities, and educational institutions to mobilize communities through volunteer engagement, climate action, and education service projects focused on urban greening, organic waste and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. Selected Fellows will serve 1700 hours as AmeriCorps members over approximately eleven months, supporting community volunteer engagement, climate action, or education projects in vulnerable communities across the state. ABOUT HOST PARTNER: FIND Food Bank (Food In Need of Distribution) is dedicated to relieving hunger, the causes of hunger, and the problems associated with hunger through awareness, education, and mobilization of resources and community involvement. We distribute over 20 million meals to over 150,000 people on average every month from 150 distribution sites. Our goal is to end hunger and food scarcity in the in the Coachella Valley desert region to create a sustainable food system for a more climate resilient world. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Discover a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact in your community! As a Food Recovery Fellow at FIND Food Bank, you'll be at the forefront of efforts to combat food insecurity while championing food equity and sustainability across Coachella Valley. Fellows will implement a high-impact service project focused on edible food recovery and organic waste diversion— reducing climate pollution and contributing to measurable climate outcomes by supporting the redistribution of rescued food that serves approximately 150,000 people per month. From recruiting volunteers and organizing engaging events to diverting food waste through composting and organic recycling initiatives, your contributions will directly support our mission to reduce organic waste and increase food rescue. Join us in reducing organic waste disposal by 75% and increasing food rescue by 20% to create a greener, more equitable future for all! Duties include, but are not limited to: Apply Here Spearhead FIND's volunteer recruitment, engaging the community to expand our dedicated volunteer base and support food rescue and composting operations Implement our innovative composting program, coordinating the diversion of over 2,000 lbs. of food waste monthly Organize dynamic community events to advocate for food recovery and sustainability efforts, ensuring resources are available to encourage community engagement Develop an education curriculum and lead outreach events to inform and inspire community members to participate in food recovery initiatives Assist the warehouse team in packing events, sorting expired food donations, and streamlining material storage for seamless food recycling and effective Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact Participation in training not to exceed 20% (340-hours) of total service hours Fellow duties will not include any prohibited or unallowable activities per 45 CFR § 2520.65 Fellow duties will not supplant, duplicate, or displace staff as outlined in 45 CFR § 2540.100 (e)-(f)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Live in California by August 14, 2026 Must be age 18 or older by August 14, 2026 Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and experience in community outreach, data/quantitative analysis, diverse outdoor conditions (rain, wind, heat, steep or uneven terrain), edible food recovery, environmental education, environmental justice/equity, event coordination & planning, Google suite, graphic design, marketing & social media, Microsoft Office Suite & Teams, multi stakeholder collaboration, project management, public speaking/facilitation, technical writing, and volunteer management & engagement. Must have access to a reliable vehicle. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Other valuable contributions include: An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills
BENEFITS OF SERVICE: Fellows will be paired with dedicated mentors and supported by staff throughout their professional journey. In addition to ongoing professional development, fellows will build valuable networks by collaborating with local nonprofits, government partners, and community businesses.
