To compassionately serve men, women and children who find themselves hungry, homeless, victims of domestic violence/sexual assault. We serve by providing clothing, food, healthcare, and safe sanctuary. We advocate for change and offer hope.
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED; at least two years' experience working in a human services related field; knowledge of basic computer programs, including Word, Excel, Access.
Primary supervisor is Shelter Manager
SHIFTS AVAILABLE:
Shelter Support Staff (part time - up to 35 hours per week)
A current Drivers License is required to assist with food pickup.
Background check and drug screen required prior to coming on board.
Professional references are required.
Duties for Support Staff
- Treat each client and potential client with dignity and respect and maintain a "how can I help" attitude at all times.
- Assist with shelter supervision. Client interaction in the form of on-going support and listening
- Ensure cleanliness of shelter by enforcement of dorm cleanliness and completion of chores. Addressing shelter policies and guidelines with residents.
- Monitoring supplies and communicating needs to Shelter Manager.
- Maintain safety of facility by monitoring security and responding to crisis issues appropriately as trained.
- Mandated to report any witnessed or suspected abuse of any sort to Shelter Manager and cooperate with filing report to the Department of Social Services.
- Participate in house meetings with residents as needed to address shelter concerns and needs.
- Consideration will be given to the safety and security of all guests at all times. Malfunctioning security equipment will be reported to the appropriate Shelter Manager immediately. Security breaches or attempted security breaches will be reported to law enforcement; Shelter Manager will also be contacted immediately.
- Document in the staff log as needed.
- Work with other staff as a team in order to provide the best services possible to guests.
- Attend bi-annual staff training and other training as required.
- Adhere to the rules of confidentiality.
- Be able to deal with possible explosive situations in a positive, non-threatening manner.
- Must maintain a high degree of professionalism when working with clients as well as the public.
- Assistance with transportation. A valid NC Driver's License and clean driving record is required.
- Position requires use of a computer, fax, cell phone, telephone and copier. Employee must have the ability to write grammatically correct, professional communication.
