JOB OBJECTIVES:
Answers telephones, both 911 and business lines; prioritize and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls. Monitor and operate the multiple radio frequencies and paging equipment. Performs computer data entry and inquiry. Provide preeminent customer service to the public, no matter the situation. This person is the first, First Responder to the public’s emergency and their first contact with law enforcement, fire, and medical services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • 18 years of age
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • United States Citizen
  • High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • Typing skills – 35 wpm
  • Successfully pass the Civil Service exam
  • Successfully pass the FCSO hiring process

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Answer phones. 911 lines take priority over all other calls, simultaneously entering information into the computer system. Dispatchers answer calls for the Sheriff’s Office, 911, and other contracted lines.
  • Dispatcher must be accountable for all units in the field. Know their location and status. This includes law enforcement, EMS, Fire, and any other dispatched units to include PUD, Coroner, MH, and corrections.
  • Accurately enter data into the CAD (computer aided dispatch) system while conversing with the caller.
  • Keep accurate computer logs. Dispatcher maintain the logs for all radio traffic and phone calls.
  • Accurately relay information to the units in the field and notify all appropriate personnel
  • Calms, negotiates, advises, and provides instruction to callers to obtain accurate and essential information necessary to establish priority and initiate a timely response
  • Be aware of and comply with all department policies and procedures
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality with the information obtained on the job
  • Ability to speak the English language, enunciate clearly, good memory, keen hearing and listening skills
  • Accurate entry and maintenance of warrants, restraining orders, missing, runaway, stolen items, and any other entry that must be made into the ACCESS system
  • Perform in a courteous and professional manner under stressful circumstances when dealing with the public, user agencies, and coworkers
  • Perform a variety of other duties as assigned
  • Shifts worked are rotating, which may include holidays and weekends
  • Must be able to attend out of town training
