Job Summary
The Procurement Specialist is an entry-level to junior-level role responsible for supporting procurement activities within a manufacturing environment. This position focuses on sourcing, purchase order processing, order tracking, light vendor management, and data entry, while supporting broader supply chain operations. The role offers growth potential and may convert to a long-term position based on performance, with an initial evaluation period of approximately 30 days.
Essential Job Functions
- Source and purchase materials, supplies, and services to support manufacturing and operational needs.
- Assist with qualifying and evaluating vendors based on quality, cost, reliability, and performance metrics.
- Prepare, review, and analyze vendor bids, quotes, and proposals.
- Support price and terms negotiations under guidance of senior buyers.
- Track purchase orders to ensure timely delivery, accurate data entry, and adherence to quality standards.
- Perform data entry for purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records.
- Track and report on vendor KPIs and purchasing activity.
- Maintain and update vendor databases, including performance and compliance information.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand procurement needs and support supply chain operations.
- Assist with procurement reporting, spend tracking, and basic data analysis.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field OR equivalent experience (5 years may substitute).
- 1–2 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory, supply chain, or a related operational role
- Average Excel skills with the ability to track data, orders, and reports.
- Basic understanding of vendor management and order tracking.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing or blue-collar environments (agriculture preferred).
- Exposure to procurement systems, e-procurement tools, or ERP platforms.
- Experience with data analysis or reporting related to purchasing or supply chain.
- Familiarity with vendor KPIs and performance tracking.
- Professional procurement certifications (CPSM, CPM) are a plus but not required.
- Exposure to sustainability or ethical sourcing principles is a plus.
