Construction Materials Inspector / QA Inspector
Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified Construction Materials Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspection and testing services on transportation, roadway, site development, and infrastructure projects throughout the Buffalo, New York area. The ideal candidate will possess ICC Soils Certification, Nuclear Gauge Certification, and NYSHMA (New York State Hot Mix Asphalt) Certification and have experience monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform field inspection and testing of concrete, soil, asphalt, and related construction materials.
- Sample, test, and mold fresh concrete strength specimens in accordance with project specifications and applicable ACI and ASTM standards.
- Conduct soil density testing utilizing nuclear density gauges in accordance with project specifications and applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and NYSDOT standards.
- Observe and document excavation, grading, backfilling, compaction, and earthwork operations.
- Inspect hot mix asphalt placement, paving operations, and compaction activities.
- Verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and quality control requirements.
- Collect material samples and perform field and laboratory testing as required.
- Prepare detailed daily field reports, test reports, and project documentation.
- Communicate inspection findings and coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and government agency representatives.
- Identify construction deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure calibration requirements are met.
- Follow company safety policies and OSHA regulations while working on active construction sites.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred).
- ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I (required).
- ICC Soils Special Inspector Certification (required).
- Nuclear Gauge Certification (required).
- NYSHMA Hot Mix Asphalt Certification (required).
- Valid New York State Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
