Job Description: Assistant Teacher
Position Type: Part-time
Schedule Options: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 AM-1 PM
Compensation: $17.50/hour
Reports To: Preschool Director and Head Teacher
Position Overview
Fellowship Wesleyan Preschool is seeking caring, enthusiastic, and dependable Assistant Teachers to join our team. Our preschool exists to nurture young children in a safe, faith-filled, and creative learning environment. Assistant Teachers play a vital role in supporting the Head Teacher, engaging students, and helping create a joyful classroom atmosphere that encourages curiosity, growth, and kindness.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Preparation & Support
- Assist in setting up the classroom each day, which may include:
- Pulling and preparing the story for the day
- Filling story pockets
- Setting up the art center for the daily project
- Setting out cups and napkins for snack time
- Placing out nametags for the day
- Help set up and clean up the classroom and gym spaces, ensuring smooth transitions for church activities.
Instruction & Student Engagement
- Share daily teaching responsibilities with the Head Teacher, including during virtual instruction if needed.
- Lead or assist with activities such as:
- Art projects
- Music time
- Storytime
- Clean-up and transitions
- Supervise half of the class during:
- Bathroom breaks
- Learning center activities
- Assist in teaching and supervising students during gym and playground time.
- Support an orderly and safe dismissal process each day.
Team Collaboration & Planning
- Participate in monthly planning sessions and contribute to creative classroom ideas.
- Share equally in preparing monthly craft projects.
- Partner with the Director and teaching team for classroom observations and feedback (at least one per semester).
Community & Family Engagement
- Participate in community outreach events (e.g., Mom’s Morning Out, Vacation Bible School).
- Attend one classroom open house and one community open house each year.
- Build warm, caring relationships with parents and families.
- Assist in writing annual student evaluations (March).
Qualifications
- A genuine love for children and a heart for Christian education.
- Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous preschool or childcare experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of working with young children (bending, lifting, standing, etc.).
