About the Job

The Crisis Stabilization Unit serves as a facility-based program where patients experiencing a psychiatric emergency can receive short-term stabilization services in a safe, structured setting. This 16 bed unit operates for the purposes of hospitalization diversion as well as a step down from a hospital setting for Rhode Island residents 18 years of age or older. It centers on recovery and resiliency with an emphasis on rehabilitation and person-centered care to manage behavioral health needs, improve activities of daily living, and increase independence in order to transfer to a lower level of care. This program operates 24 hours a day/365 days a year.

The CSU is a hands off program and restraints are not used. Clients are admitted to the CSU on a voluntary basis have the ability to refuse treatment if they choose.

CSU Case Managers provide general daily care to our program individuals. Case Managers assist young adult through geriatric individuals with chronic mental illness and substance use disorders in learning the necessary daily living skills to achieve social, economic, emotional, and personal independence in the community. Case Managers work with a multidisciplinary team to complete intakes, treatment plans, and discharge plans, including referrals to residential treatment and outpatient providers. All CSU staff meet with clients one on one, complete safety checks. and facilitate therapeutic groups.

Responsibilities

· Understand the signs and symptoms of mental illnesses and intervene therapeutically in a recovery based environment

· Demonstrate knowledge of prescribed medications, an ability to monitor medications, and follow FHR state specific medication guidelines.

· Maintain client records in accordance with agency policy and procedures

· Ensure that clients live in a safe and clean environment.

· Provides psycho-educational services to clients and their families, as required.

Qualifications

· An Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

· A degree in the Human Service field, such as Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitative Counseling, or closely related discipline.

· Computer literacy including past experience with computerized health record systems is desired.

· An RI Criminal Background Check is required and obtained by the employee prior to start date.

· Group Home and/or Community Mental Health experience is a plus.

· CPR and CPI are required and provided to all employees.
