In manufacturing, a Material Handler ensures the seamless flow of raw materials to production lines and the efficient removal of finished goods for shipment. Unlike standard warehouse roles, this position often involves working directly with machine operators and strictly following production schedules.
Core Responsibilities:
- Production Support: Delivers raw materials and supplies to specific work centers to prevent line downtime.
- Loading & Unloading: Safely moves freight from delivery trucks to storage or production areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks.
- QC Components: Verifies parts and components for production orders and confirms quantities against purchase orders. Verify completed assemblies meet published standards.
- Staging & Packaging: Prepares finished stock for shipment by pulling, packing, crating, and securing products.
- Waste Management: Disposes of scrap materials from production lines and manages recycling collection points.
- Scheduling Production: Schedules production based on Work Order due dates and inventory levels.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bilingual a plus
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand/walk for 8?12 hours and lift between 50 to 100 lbs regularly.
- Equipment Operation: Proficiency with material-handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts, reach trucks, cranes, and electric pallet jacks.
- Certification: Many employers require OSHA-compliant forklift certification.
- Tech Literacy: Basic computer skills for data entry. Excel, Power Point, Word. and experience with RF Scanners or voice-picking systems.
- Attention to Detail: Critical for verifying lot numbers, expiration dates, serial numbers, and quality standards to avoid production errors.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Settings: Busy manufacturing floors, loading docks, and temperature-controlled storage areas.
- Shifts: Day Shift
- Safety Gear: Requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safety glasses, and ear plugs
Rate of Pay: $18-$19/ hour, commensurate with education and experience
