Position Title: Design Engineer | Security & Automation
Location: Hybrid (Plymouth Office) or Remote
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Job Type: Full Time, Exempt
Who We’re Looking For
This role is for a detail-driven systems thinker with a knack for clean design, smart documentation, and customer-first execution. As the Design Engineer for Security & Automation, you own the full drawing lifecycle for our Tier 1 customers—from system design and layout creation to post-install validation and documentation. You are a technical partner to Sales and Field Services and a calm, clear communicator when project timelines heat up.
If you take pride in anticipating needs, resolving discrepancies before they become issues, and producing work that speaks for itself, you’ll thrive in this seat.
About Federated Service Solutions
At Federated Service Solutions, we move fast, solve real problems, and make complex rollouts look easy. Since 2004, we’ve helped national brands deploy technology at scale—on time and on budget.
Our teams run on autonomy, ownership, and integrity. No red tape. No micromanagement. Just results. If you’re sharp, action-oriented, and want your work to matter, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
- Design CCTV and security systems for Tier 1 customers that align with specs and standards
- Develop clear, scalable AV and automation layout drawings for pre-install coordination
- Create and maintain accurate CAD markups of all system types (security and AV)
- Validate and revise documentation post-install to ensure alignment with field outcomes
- Own documentation and configuration standards across customer design packages
- Communicate directly with internal teams and occasionally with customers to clarify design requirements
- Proactively escalate discrepancies, missing data, or inconsistencies before they delay field work
- Maintain clear version control and file management across projects
What You Bring
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and similar tools (Revit, Visio, Bluebeam are a plus)
- Deep familiarity with CCTV, access control, AV systems, and automation environments
- Experience creating layout drawings, risers, floor plans, and one-line diagrams
- Ability to interpret construction documents and field markups
- Professionalism in email, meetings, and customer interactions
- Strong organizational skills with pride in accuracy
Nice to Have
- CTS, NICET, or AutoCAD Certification
- Hands-on field experience in low-voltage installs
- Experience supporting large, multi-site national projects
Who Shouldn’t Apply: If you overlook details, struggle to follow naming conventions, or get flustered when timelines shift, this role will be frustrating. If you enjoy crafting clean, reliable work that enables others to succeed, you’ll be in great company.

- Trust, autonomy, and clear expectations
- Collaborative team that shares wins
- Minimal red tape
