We are looking for a Weld Engineer to work in New Haven, CT supporting our client.
JOB PURPOSE:
- Responsible for developing
welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to
problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of
production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and
metal alloys, and engineering principles.
- Conducts research and development
investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and
procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new
or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish welding procedures to
guide production and welding personnel relating to specification
restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which
involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of
critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
- Design and create any required
welding fixtures for standard product production.
- Develop internal pacification
methods to pacify welds.
- Evaluate new developments in
welding field for possible application to current welding problems or
production processes.
- Direct and coordinate technical
personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with
established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing
welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding
personnel for certification.
- Partner with Buyers to develop a
supply chain for welding consumables, and any weldment parts that can be
outsourced to support the product line.
- Fixture, weld and assemble
product to customer specifications.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Materials
Engineering or Welding Engineering; or 10 years’ experience in the
applicable subject matter welding.
- At least a level II Visual Weld
Inspector training required.
- 2-4 years of experience in
welding or stainless steel required.
- Proficient in all aspects of
quality and quality systems including ISO 9000 and similar benchmarks.
- 3D Modeling
- Ability to use computers and
software programs including:
- SolidWorks
- AutoCAD 2D
- MS Outlook
- MS Word
- MS Excel
- Individuals must be able to work
independently and professionally to support a startup environment.
- Minimal travel is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequently sitting and using
standard office equipment (i.e., computer, keyboard, mouse, phone).
- Frequently standing and walking.
- Occasionally twisting/turning,
stooping/bending, squatting and climbing.
- Frequently repetitive hand/wrist
motion and forearm rotation.
- Frequently lifting 1-10 lbs and
occasionally lifting 11-50 lbs.
- Occasionally carrying up to 25
lbs.
- Occasionally pushing/pulling up
to 50 lbs.
- Frequently using machinery or
tools.
- Occasionally doing simple
grasping or fine manipulation.
- May have to drive up to .02
hours/day.
Must Have:
- Degree in Materials Engineering
or Welding Engineering OR 10 years of welding-specific experience
- 2 to 4 years of hands-on
experience in welding, including stainless steel work
- Level II Visual Weld Inspector
training required
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and
use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D
- Working knowledge of ISO 9000 or similar quality systems
Additional Information:
- Individual must be able to work
independently and professionally to support a startup environment.
- Minimal travel is required.
- Hours are 8am – 4:30pm
